The Wise and the Foolish

I got some very old books from my grandma and have rarely opened them because I am afraid of damaging them. They were published in 1799 and since my son-in-law, Scott is an English teacher and a true lover of literature and familiar with these particular books, I offered them to him. I am sending them to him tomorrow and got them out to get them ready and actually opened one of them this evening. I feel like maybe I have missed a wealth of treasure. I found this gem in one of them... "I have often thought if the minds of men were laid open, we should see but little difference between that of the wise man and that of the fool. There are infinite reveries, numberless extravagancies, and a perpetual train of vanities that pass through both. The greatest difference is that the first knows how to pick and cull this thoughts for conversation by suppressing some and communicating others while the other lets them all indifferently fly out in words. --The Spectator--Published November 17, 1771. Interestingly, I have been reading in PROVERBS everyday and in Proverbs 17, it says, "Even a fool, when he holds his peace, is counted wise."

Happy 4th of July

This is a good weekend. I got an extra day for my weekend and we went to Silver Dollar City. It is occurring to me (probably because of my age) that we have so much to be thankful for. So many freedoms that we take for granted. And on this special weekend, I am so very grateful to God for my freedom, both spiritual and physical he has blessed me with. I am free from all of the old sins that I have committed. Aaron, who just turned 5 this week, asked me Tuesday, "Nana, why did Jesus die for us anyway?" And even though I am sure he has heard it a hundred times, it was fun to tell him that now we don't have to go to hell because Jesus has done it for us and HE came back. (To which Aaron said, "You're really old aren't you Nana? You're so old YOU'RE about to die!" Oh well--ya can't win 'em all) And I have been blessed again because I have been born into a nation where people have cared enough to fight and die for the freedom that we have here. Just thinking and writing today... God Bless America.

I think I'll quit taking days off work.  The last three times I have, I've been sick.  This time I have spent 4 out of 5 days mostly in bed.  I've been to the dentist, the doctor and the emergency room.  I've been diagnosed with a sinus infection, trigemianl neuralgia, and finally a bad tooth again.  Don't know what it is, don't care what it is, just want it to stop.  I'll go to the Dentist again tomorrow and see if the emergency room doctor was right.  But on a brighter note, Allyson got graduated!!!  It was a great weekend for family.  Janice and Elly flew in on Wednesday and out on Saturday.  Adrienne and her family and Heather and her family were all here to help with things a lot and we enjoyed everybody so much.  John said it best.  "Could anyone ask God for any better kids and grandkids than what we have?"  They are all so great.

New Projects

I spent today doing something great!  I built a patio with pavers.  When we were done, we put a firepit in the middle of it.  I love it!  I took matters into my own hands and made it bigger than we originally planned but it's a good thing.  It's about perfect.  And as we decide, we can add on.  I feel like I accomplished something great for the first time on my day off in a while.  Ahhhh.....Life is grand.

Rain, Rain, Go Away!?

I am sitting here looking out the window at the rain pour down for what seems like the 40th day in a row.  I sent John a text from work the other day and asked if the ark was ready yet.  And yet, even as I type this, I can't be all negative about it.  I start getting nervous if we don't get rain later in the year.  I remember when I was a kid that around the middle of June, if it began to rain, my dad would keep looking out the window because of the wheat.  If the rains came too hard or we had hail, it would ruin the wheat.  But we don't have to worry about that nowadays.  Now it's more of an inconvenience.  But it's pretty, too.  It's as if all of the ugly brown winter trees got washed away and in their place, there are beautiful green leaves, branches and twigs.  In place of the twiggy bushes, we have the gorgeous green and colorful plants in our front yard.  And our garden is showing it's little tops above the ground.  Maybe I should take this time for a spiritual washing as my little world has its physical washing.  I could just let the Holy Spirit wash over me and replace the ugly old bitterness with understanding and empathy.   Where the coldness of life has snapped off branches, the River of God could come in and clean me and patience could start branching out and love could once again rule my thoughts and life...More rain, Lord.

Senioritis

Allyson came in this morning and announced "ONLY 18 MORE DAYS LEFT OF SCHOOL!"  I responded that I was almost as happy as she is.  After 26 years of school I have to tell you that I'm not sad to see it go.  I have had people say that they are sure I'll miss it but I'm not so sure.  It is a Monday so on the way to work I go to thinking only 19 more years of work--yee ha!  Big yippee!  What is that...almost 4800 more days?  Gee that's exciting.  Such a Monday.  I try to have a great attitude on Mondays but some days, ugh.  I took my computer to work today because we haven't been terribly busy but we sure were today.  So fortunately I didn't have much time to think about that 19 years.  Work isn't that bad but 19 years!!!  Come on Lynn...suck it up.  Only 4 more days this week.

Babies, Boys, Balls and Business

I had a good weekend.  It was interesting.  Allyson had her fake baby from "Adult and Family Living Class."  A couple of times it wouldn't quit crying.  She got frustrated and we got a kick out of it.  I don't think any of it surprised her.  She has been around enough babies that she had an idea of the how much work they are.  I spent part of the weekend with the 4 grandsons.  That was a riot!  I watched them for a couple of hours while their moms had a meeting at work. They are all so different.  But so smart...of course I think so.  We played outside, throwing balls, kicking balls, chasing each other, sliding down the slide and riding bikes.  Then in the middle of the night I got a call to go do a drug test at a hospital for a client so we were out till about 1:00.  It was crazy out in the middle of the night...drag racing, motor cycle gangs, and weird people--wow!  Oh well.  I would rather have a weekend anytime than a workweek, huh?
